Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) attributed the unusually intense rainfall to a convergence of wind patterns, and warned of more frequently occurring extreme weather events as a result of climate change. Severe flooding affected large parts of the city, resulting in dozens of casualties and thousands of displaced residents.
